Data Management

Data management is possibly the most commonly overlooked issue facing any company. The dynamic nature of data means that it only has real value at specific moments in time, to specific individuals; at that moment in time, all other data is irrelevant, hence it's critical that data is managed correctly.

Data is not static; it should be viewed as a flow, which can be siphoned when needed. Data flow is an end-to-end journey of data from transactional input systems, through to the reporting applications in a BPM solution. Often overlooked when creating and managing data in a BPM solution, is the 'feedback loop', such as occurs during budgets and forecasts, which ensures that the data arrives back in the source systems.

As data flows around an environment, its value changes and, while most data management strategies are focused on adding value to data, too little consideration is given to the removal of data that either confuses the position, or worse, contradicts current data because it is out of date.
